Spice Island Marine, Prickly Bay, Grenada

Unfortunately and typically, during the dry season in the Caribbean we were delayed in going back into the water due to heavy rain from Thursday until Sunday when it started to ease off. We decided to head to Grand Anse beach with Kate and Jonny to watch the Grenada Sailing Regatta for the Working Boat races. This consisted of local sailing fishing boat racing against other members of their Parish on Grenada to ultimately find the overall Grenadian winner. The boats were great, very colourful with the usual inventive names and with more than a little gaffer tape holding all together. The racing was closely fought though, even if some of the teams were better than others at the beach start which gave a considerable advantage in the light winds and drizzly conditions. It was fairly hard to follow the racing as the legs were not finished before the next one started, but Jonny an ex-optimist champ in his youth did his best to explain.

Kev & Jonny suss out the competitors and learn some interesting gaffer tape rigging tricks

Boats all lined up...start time has passed but I think they meant 10am Caribbean time

The beautiful long Grand Anse beach

"No Jail For Keith" wins the best name competition, though we never did find out who Keith was...

Races in action despite the unusually wet day
